Come as you are…then what?

Come as you are…then what?

Come as you are…then what?

Being raised in church the statement “come as you are” is a statement I have heard for years, but not until recently did I realize those words are not exactly scripture. I don’t blame anyone for saying those words are scriptural, I just assumed after hearing them for so many years it must be in the Bible. I chalk this up to my naive nature.
Even though those exact words are not written, they are implied in many Scriptures, my favorite- Revelation 22:17 “Come!” say the Spirit and the Bride. Whoever hears, echo, “Come!” Is anyone thirsty? Come! All who will, come and drink, drink freely of the Water of Life! (The Message)
How beautiful to drink these words in! Are you thirsty, lonely, hungry, depressed, broken, hurt, burdened, sick, incomplete, hypocritical, an abuser, the abused, the cheater, the unbeliever – Christ calls you to come to Him just as your are in all your messiness, questions, insecurities, frailty and weakness – He doesn’t care how you come to him, He just wants you to give him a radical chance so He can show you “the then what”.

Jeremiah 29:12 “When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen.
13-14 When you come looking for me, you’ll find me.
Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.  God’s Decree. (The Message)

Wow, “you won’t be disappointed”! Isn’t that the truth!
I can’t tell you how you won’t be disappointed – “ that is your story, your journey God has for you – “ All I can share is that in my own life, in my own journey, God has not disappointed me in His love for my life. Does this mean I haven’t had difficulties? No! But it has made the difficulty of the journey easier to endure.
Come as you are…there’s a “then what” waiting for you my friend.

Peace and grace,
